Although PP supporters fielded a few speakers, these were mostly younger people, augmented by a couple of middle-aged adults. One of these invoked the "if we can save just one child" strategy. Never mind the human misery created by incurable sexually transmitted diseases and unexpected pregnancies. There would seem to be more than a casual link between PP's philosophy, as shown on their web site, and unwanted juvenile pregnancies, providing new clientele for their abortion clinics.
Superintendent McIntyre seems to be of the opinion that teachers should not be inconvenienced by having to prepare to teach (do their job) 'health' classes.
There were several outstanding speakers who addressed the Board, but for the sake of decency, I cannot put their videos up. It was obviously embarrassing to these folks to quote what they had seen at the PP website for teens. In spite of their feelings, however, they forged ahead and apprised the board and the public of what they had seen.
A particularly good address was from Pastor Sam Polson, of West Park Baptist Church, Knoxville. Like Old Testament prophets who called on Israel to repent, Polson made very clear the serious moral implications of the School Board's allowing PP teaching in the schools. Polson quoted Jesus in Luke, Chapter 17, "Jesus said to his disciples: “Things that cause people to stumble are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come. It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble. So watch yourselves."
Here's where we stand now, as I understand it:
- Planned Parenthood is out of the school system beginning next year . . .
- But, Planned Parenthood stays in the school system for the remainder of this year.
- Planned Parenthood was reported to be training teachers, meaning . . .
- After Planned Parenthood leaves the school system, their curriculum will stay behind.
- Planned Parenthood's curriculum is reported to be in violation of Tennessee law.
- Replacement of the School Superintendent, and perhaps . . .
- Replacement of the School Board.

Spot on with both of your conclusions. We need an elected superintendent or a board who will search for and hire a qualified superintendent from among our own community - someone who knows and appreciates East Tennessee values. No more Ivy League "we know better than you what you need" intellectual types.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly right. The superintendent is just giving us canned answers to try and pacify us. I don't see where the students' best interests have been met. What I've learned about PP and what they teach is appalling and disgusting. Shame on the Knox Co. School Board, if I was on the board, I'd resign. Yes we need people with East TN values and yes we are unique in our values and what we teach our children!
